On-course shot data via API integration—club selection, actual distances, putt lengths, proximity to pin—unlocks a level of analytics that manual scorecard entry can't touch.
Today, players manually log score, putts, and fairway hit/miss. That's 3 data points per hole. With Tangent's API, we get every shot—club, distance, location, putt length, proximity to the pin—and the insights multiply.
3 data points per hole × 18 holes = 54 data points per round
~6–8 data points per shot × ~80 shots = 500+ data points per round
With shot-level data from Tangent, Vector can deliver analytics that manual entry physically can't produce. Here's what becomes possible.
Proximity to Pin by Club & Distance
Average distance to the hole after approach shots, broken down by club used and yardage range. Identifies which clubs produce tight approaches and which scatter.
Example: "Your 8-iron from 150–160 yd averages 24 ft to the pin. Your 9-iron from 135–145 yd averages 18 ft. You're more precise one club down."
Approach Miss Pattern (Long/Short/Left/Right)
With shot location data, Vector maps where your approach shots land relative to the pin—not just GIR yes/no, but directional miss bias by club.
Example: "When you miss the green with a 7-iron, 67% of misses are short-right. Your sim data shows face 1.2° open—same pattern."
Club Selection Efficiency
Compares the club you chose vs. actual distance hit vs. distance to the pin. Identifies over-clubbing and under-clubbing patterns.
Example: "You under-club on 62% of approaches over 160 yd. Average approach leaves 28 ft short—an extra club would cut that in half."
Make Rate by Distance Bucket
Today we only know putt count. With putt distance, Vector calculates make rate by bucket: 0–5 ft, 5–10 ft, 10–20 ft, 20–30 ft, 30+ ft. Compare against handicap benchmarks.
Example: "You make 88% inside 5 ft (good) but only 22% from 5–10 ft (15-HCP avg is 38%). That's 2.3 strokes/round left on the table."
3-Putt Distance Threshold
Identifies the distance where 3-putts start happening. Lag putting or speed control issue? Vector tells you exactly where the breakdown starts.
Example: "Zero 3-putts inside 25 ft. But from 25–40 ft you 3-putt 35% of the time—lag putt distance control is the priority."
First Putt Leave Distance
Average remaining putt distance after the first attempt. Measures lag putting quality and whether you're giving yourself makeable second putts.
Example: "From 30+ ft, your first putt averages 4.2 ft remaining. Tour avg is 2.8 ft. Lag putting drill: 3-ft circle."
Course Carry vs. Sim Carry
Compares actual on-course distances from Tangent against your launch monitor carry from sim sessions. Identifies the real-world gap per club.
Example: "Your sim 7-iron carries 172 yd. On-course average: 163 yd. That 9 yd gap means you're under-clubbing by almost a full club."
Dispersion Pattern by Club
With shot location, Vector builds a real-world dispersion map for each club—how wide and how deep your shot pattern spreads on-course.
Example: "Your driver dispersion is 48 yd wide (L-R) and 22 yd deep (short-long). Your 3-wood is 31 yd wide—consider the 3-wood on tight holes."
Club Frequency & Smart Gapping
Tracks how often each club is used on-course and identifies distance gaps between clubs. Are you carrying clubs you rarely use? Is there a 20 yd gap between your 5-iron and hybrid?
Example: "You used your 4-iron once in the last 5 rounds but hit your 5-hybrid 14 times. Consider swapping the 4i for a gap wedge."
Strokes Gained by Category
With shot-level distance and location data, Vector can compute strokes gained: off the tee, approach, around the green, and putting—against handicap-specific benchmarks.
Example: "You're gaining 0.8 strokes off the tee but losing 1.4 strokes on approach. Your approach game is where the index drops."
Scoring by Lie Type
Tangent tracks whether you're hitting from fairway, rough, or bunker. Vector calculates scoring averages and scramble success rates from each lie.
Example: "From fairway: avg +0.3 over par. From rough: avg +1.1 over par. You lose 0.8 strokes per hole from the rough—keep it in the short grass."
Scrambling Drill Targets
When you miss a green, Tangent tells us how far from the pin you were, what club you used to recover, and whether you saved par. Vector turns this into precision short game drill recommendations.
Example: "You scramble 48% from <10 yd but only 18% from 10–20 yd. Focus: 15 yd bump-and-run drill with your 52°."
Does Your Sim Work Translate?
Cross-reference launch monitor sessions with on-course performance. If you've been drilling face angle on the sim, is your on-course miss pattern actually changing?
Example: "After 3 sim sessions focusing on face angle, your on-course right-miss rate dropped from 43% to 28%. The drill is working."
Practice Priority: Sim vs. Course
Vector recommends what to work on in your next sim session based on where you're actually losing strokes on the course—not just what the numbers say indoors.
Example: "You're losing 1.4 SG on approach. Your sim 7-iron shows 2.8° face-to-path. Next sim session: 7-iron face control drill—it's the link."
Enhanced scorecard insights with Tangent data feeding the grid. Blue cells are new metrics only possible with API integration.
Tangent captures the data. Vector delivers the insight. Together, it's a complete performance analytics system—from tee to green, from sim to course.
